Stone

Diamonds are still a girl’s best friend! A jewelry and engagement study conducted by The Knot found that 86% of couples who got engaged between January and November selected a diamond as the ring’s center stone.

But shoppers are starting to favor eco-friendly options over natural diamonds. Nearly one quarter of engagement rings this year incorporated a lab-grown diamond or other gemstone as the center stone. That marks an 11% increase since 2019.

If you can’t afford a natural or lab-grown diamond, moissanite is the most popular choice among diamond alternatives. This colorful, durable stone now makes up roughly 30% of non-diamond purchases – a nearly 10% jump over the past two years.

Shape

Sometimes, you can’t beat a true classic, like a round cut diamond. Couples are still awestruck by this simple yetstunning shape. In fact, round cut diamonds were featured in 41% of engagement rings this year.

However, if you’re looking for something a bit more unique, consider an oval stone. This shape has been catching shoppers’ eyes for the past several years. Just 2% of couples selected an oval engagement ring in 2015. This year, ovals were featured in 19% of rings!

Size

Whether you choose a single diamond or multiple, all stones in an engagement ring typically weigh a total of 1.5 carats. Roughly 25% of rings have even bigger stones, weighing more than two total carats. While a large, sparkly gem might be appealing, shoppers agree that shape and ring style are more important than stone size.

Metal

When it comes to selecting the metal for an engagement ring, white gold still holds the most popular slot, with 45% of couples buying a white gold ring this year. But the white gold craze has been fading for several years. On the other hand, yellow gold has seen an 11% increase in purchases since 2017.
